Amid the excitement of New York’s annual United Nations General Assembly Week, one event stood out as the crown jewel. That was the Presidential Diamond Jubilee Reception, hosted by the Government of the Republic of Botswana.

Taking place on Thursday evening, the event brought together world leaders, dignitaries, media, and celebrity talent to commemorate 60 years of diamond leadership in Botswana. Guests included Botswana’s President Duma Boko, Time Magazine’s Chief Executive Officer Jessica Sibley, Botswana’s Seconded Ministry of Minerals and Energy Marketing Lead Pat Dambe, journalist Leah Faye Cooper, entertainers Malibu Miitch and Maiya the Don, and Global Venture Partners’ Co-Founder and Managing Director Josh Wilson.

Rockefeller Center’s posh 610 Loft & Garden space hosted the occasion—overlooking Manhattan’s bustling Fifth Avenue and its adjoining diamond district. “I’m so glad I was one of the first guests to arrive, because I was able to relax and enjoy a glass of champagne while taking in the amazing rooftop views before the incoming crowd,” said attendee Chanel Clemons.

The landmark House of Botswana event commenced with VIP arrivals and a red carpet photo call, as elegantly dressed guests enjoyed an open bar and passed trays of hors d’oeuvres including duck confit, steak tartare, lobster rolls, and stuffed potatoes. As the sun began to set over the building’s stone architecture and cascading pool, guests were ushered inside the ballroom area for an exclusive panel conversation between President Boko and Sibley (Time’s CEO).

When Sibley asked President Boko for his thoughts on Botswana’s steady rise in global tourism, culture, and diamond conservation, he quickly replied: “Beware of the bounce back!” His response underscored his landmark win as President and his commitment to the country’s “scintillating” creativity and economic boom. “Botswana is on the world stage—not just here, for tonight, but for the past few years of us proving that our country truly sparkles like the diamond,” Boko added.

Chiming in agreement, GVP’s Wilson stated: “Events like tonight are much more than simply networking. This opportunity gives us the chance to update our partners and supporters on the richness of Botswana and the many endeavors we have planned for the future.”

At the conclusion of the panel, Sibley and President Boko posed for group photos as the rooftop terrace played soft music over the speakers, inviting guests back outside for a closing round of cocktails and tasty desserts.
