Fresh off the heels of a recent win at the 2026 NAACP Awards and at the Actor Awards, film star Michael B. Jordan has just won his very first Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role—at the 98th Academy Awards.
Taking home the 2026 Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences award for his pivotal role in the Oscar-winning film Sinners, Jordan won the illustrious statue for portraying twin brother characters, Elijah “Smoke” Moore and Elias “Stack” Moore. He was presented the award by last year’s winner, Adrien Brody, and prevailed over fellow category nominees, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Ethan Hawke, Wagner Moura, and Timothée Chalamet.

Receiving a standing ovation and reveling in his first Oscar win (and first nomination), Jordan exclaimed, “God is good!” He went on to thank his parents, siblings, castmates, team, fans, and the producers of Sinners, while also giving a touching tribute to “Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Jaime Foxx,” and other Oscar-winning African-American “giants and greats” that came before him.
As Sinners did the rounds for awards season this year, Jordan was nominated for ‘best actor’ at most of the major associations, including the Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice, and BAFTAs—where, unfortunately, he and co-star (and fellow Oscar nominee) Delroy Lindo were victims of an “uncontrollable” racial slur.
With the Oscars being the highest achievement in film—and televised globally to millions of viewers—Jordan’s win silences those naysayers and biased critics who previously argued that his acting skills were allegedly limited or strictly genre-based. Moreover, fans (and detractors) can be sure that many new film offers will be flooding Jordan’s desk, offering him even more chances to prove his acting range.

Culminating 20+ years of a prolific Hollywood career, Jordan’s acting résumé includes television and film credits for a number of projects, including The Sopranos, The Wire, Fruitvale Station, Creed, Black Panther, and many more.
As the winner of an accolade as monumental as an Oscar, this achievement should serve as a pleasant reminder—to Jordan, and fans alike—that hard work does indeed pay off. And it’s a win that is very well-deserved.
