For 2026, a newfound model and athlete, Anthony Jevon Porter (also known as AJ), has his sights set on making a splash within the international fashion industry.

Hailing from Chicago, Illinois, Porter currently resides in Villa Park and is a student at the College of DuPage. At 18 years old, he’s already signed to Select Model Management (in Chicago), and has secured a coveted modeling placement with the mega sports brand JD Finish Line. His dream is to become “the next top male model.”

For our Model Spotlight series, BROTHER caught up with Porter during the recent holidays to find out how he plans to dominate the fashion game.

BROTHER MAGAZINE:

When did you decide to pursue modeling as a professional career?

ANTHONY PORTER:

Around October of 2024, when I signed my first contract.

How has the overall experience been so far?

Surprisingly, it’s been great! Initially, I had to overcome my shyness around the camera—being the focus of attention took some getting used to. But now I find it fun as a profession. I love traveling, working with different photographers, and meeting various people (including other models and professionals in the industry). It’s exciting!

What, in your opinion, has prepared you the most for this journey?

I would say my background in sports because it taught me to take verbal instructions from coaches while working on a team with a shared goal. No one on the team wants to be the reason the team loses, and sports instilled that value of performing under pressure. Other than sports, I would definitely include coming from a strong, faith-filled household, because when I look into the camera lens, I know who I am and what I represent.

Where do you see yourself in the next 3-5 years?

My dream is to become the next top male model—being highly sought after and able to choose projects across the globe. Some dreams come true overnight (and I am a believer), but realistically, I know I can only control my attitude and perception. So, I’ll work hard to stay grounded and be open to the journey, wherever it takes me. I’d also like to become a spokesperson for a major fashion brand.

Who inspires you?

My mom inspires me. She taught me the meaning of hard work.

Why is fashion important to you?

Fashion provides a way for millions of people to communicate and become affiliated with one another (based on what we wear), and by outwardly choosing what we represent and what we value. Humans are subject to prejudice, and we navigate the world through quick judgments. And I have days when my style completely changes depending on my mood.

Any words of encouragement or advice for Black Men seeking to expound upon their creative journey?

Going back to my previous note, I would encourage Black men to embrace individuality and pursue things that may not seem in line with how the world expects to see Black men. I believe this opens up the mind and provides an opportunity to have a more worldly experience, because creativity can form from the most unexpected places.
